"Build a developer platform, but in the cloud." It sounds like a contradiction.
We’re a far cry from the IT person maintaining the server rack somewhere in the basement of the company building. Computing power is a network request away, and "Cloud Native" has become industry standard.
So what’s left to do? In the ever-growing world of infrastructure and developer tooling, it's easy to lose sight of which tools to use and how to wield them.
Thankfully, despite the plethora of tooling, the basic concepts remain the same. We're not only going to talk about what those are, but also discover that most of us already have what it takes to be a great platform engineer.
We'll cover the definition of "developer platform", explore with real-world examples (and perhaps some lessons from outside the tech industry) some of the common pitfalls when building one, and learn about some basic guidelines that will lead you to success again and again.
Whether you’re building infrastructure for your colleagues, or deployment tooling for external customers, these same principles apply. You’ll also find that there’s a lot of overlap with other everyday skills that you may already have in your toolkit.
Come join Guinevere Saenger, who has spent her tech career building developer tooling and platforms, and learn where you fit in.
The presentation will take place in Ballroom B on Friday, March 6, 2026 - 10:00 to 11:00
