The MySQL Diaspora

Topic:

MySQL was acquired by Sun Microsystems 11 years ago, and it would be 10 years this April that Oracle acquired Sun. Oracle has now been the steward of MySQL for a decade. In parallel a number of distributions based on the original MySQL code base, such as MariaDB and Percona, have also emerged with their own thriving ecosystems. How have we managed to keep a decade of forks in sync? Join us as we dive into the MySQL diaspora and learn how these open source communities compete and collaborate on the open source database database that powers the modern web. We will explore lessons learned over the past 10 years, challenges encountered, and the future direction of these projects. In this session we'll hear from Colin Charles, Peter Zaitsev (Percona), Yoshinori Matsunobu (Facebook), Vicentiu Ciorbaru (MariaDB Foundation), Sunil Kamath (Microsoft Azure MySQL/MariaDB), and Jimmy Yang (Alibaba Cloud).
