Elliot Jordan started using Linux in 1999. He's been a PC Technician and Consultant. In 2003 Elliot started teaching Computer Applications at the Elementary school level. He's worked with all levels of users – from kids through seniors. He recently presented overviews of Linux in Education for the California Council for Adult Education State Conference in Fresno and at the Technology and Learning Symposia in Los Angeles.

Abstract

Computer Applications Instructor-Learn the basics of Open Source software. Elliot will guide you through a brief history of "What?". "Who?", and "Why?" of the Open Source movement. He'll then provide an overview of how Open Source Software relates to commercial programs. Finally, Elliot will discuss popular Open Source programs including the office suite OpenOffice.org, web browsers and multimedia.
