Dru Lavigne is a network and systems administrator, IT instructor, and author. She has over a decade of experience administering and teaching Netware, Microsoft, Cisco, Checkpoint, SCO, Solaris, Linux and BSD systems. A prolific author, she pens the popular FreeBSD Basics column for O'Reilly and is author of BSD Hacks (http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/bsdhks/) and The Best of FreeBSD Basics (http://www.reedmedia.net/books/freebsd-basics/). She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Open Source Business Resource (http://www.osbr.ca), a free monthly publication covering open source and the commercialization of open source assets. She is founder and current Chair of the BSD Certification Group Inc. (http://www.bsdcertification.org), a non-profit organization with a mission to create the standard for certifying BSD system administrators.

Abstract

If you are interested in using Open Source tools to publish, this presentation is for you. Both web and print publishing will be covered. On the web side, you will learn about managing content with the Open Journal Systems (OJS). You’ll learn about determining the look for your website and choosing a theme. In print, Dru will discuss Scribus – an Open Source Desktop Publishing (DTP) program. She’ll discuss the benefits unique to DTP compared to Word Processing.
