Hal Steger

Hal Steger is responsible for marketing at Scalix. He has over 20 years of experience in bringing to market high-growth, innovative software for IT and business professionals. Prior to Scalix, he performed worldwide marketing at Oblicore, a leading provider of enterprise applications that manage service level and outsourcing agreements. Before Oblicore, Hal co-founded and was VP Marketing of RubiconSoft, a pioneer of a new category of real-time enterprise applications. Hal co-founded and was VP Marketing of Rubric, where he positioned the company as the leader in the new category of Enterprise Marketing Automation. Rubric was acquired for $370M in 2000. Prior to Rubric, Hal held executive and senior marketing roles at Oracle, Uniface/Compuware, and several high profile Silicon Valley startups. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science and Economics from the University of Michigan, and an M.S.I.A. (MBA) from Carnegie-Mellon's Tepper School of Business (formerly GSIA).

Email: The Killer App for Linux

Linux-based email has so many advantages that it may well be the killer app for Linux, even serving to propagate Linux adoption in companies. In addition to the well-known reliability, scalability and TCO for which Linux is known, email on Linux offers easy co-existence in multi vendor environments, zero disruption for end users and freedom from vendor lock-in. This session will explore these advantages, offering ammunition for Linux advocates to advance Linux email in their organizations as well as offer practical suggestions for migrating to Linux email.
