Speaker Interview: Keith Fiske

Q: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?

A: I'm a Database Administrator with OmniTI, Inc. I've been working in IT since 2000 and been working with databases for the last 10 years. I specialized in PostgreSQL when joining OmniTI 5 years ago. Since then I've written some popular third party tools for it (pg_partman, pg_extractor, mimeo).

Q: You're giving a talk on Managing OS Provided PostgreSQL Packages. Without tipping your hand on the actual talk, can you give us an idea of what we might expect?

A: Different operating systems all seem to package PostgreSQL in their own unique ways. I'll be discussing how Debian, Red Hat & FreeBSD do this.

Q: Is this your first visit to SCALE? If so, what are your expectations? If not, can you give us your impressions of the event?

A: I spoke at SCALE last year as well on the PostgreSQL track. Really enjoyed the event and finally getting to meet some of the celebrities in the open source world (Mark Shuttleworth, Cory Doctorow).
