Gerald Bortis is the lead software engineer overseeing development of the Mirth Project, an open source health care system integration application created by WebReach, Inc. Gerald is also completing his PhD in Informatics at the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine.

The Mirth Project is an open source project devoted to the development of the Mirth HL7 integration engine and its related components. This presentation will give an overview of the functionalities available in Mirth, as well as examples of how Mirth is currently being used in health care environments. I will also provide insight into open source software development within the Mirth Project.
