Crossing The Chasm Together

In this new presentation from Jono Bacon, the Ubuntu Community Manager, author of The Art of Community, and founder of the Community Leadership Summit, Bacon discusses the challenges that face the Linux community in building a pervasive, ubiquitous platform and how we can build great communities to cross the chasm together to build a Free Software platform that benefits everyone.

Bacon will cover a brief history of Linux, chronicling the evolution of the desktop, server and consumer devices and explore the competitive landscape of Linux as it stands today. He will then explore the lessons learned over the years as our communities have faced the challenges of delivering great experiences while balancing the needs of transparency and openness. Finally, he will balance these observations and data with his experience as a community manager and explore ways in which everyone in the audience can put their brick in the wall to help make Linux successful, irrespective of which distribution they use, which project they are part of, and where in the world they live. Together as a community we have faced great challenges and made fantastic progress, now it is time to re-group, explore where we are and cross the chasm to the next level.

All of this will be encased in an entertaining, amusing, and anecdote-laden presentation that will be informative and entertaining with the goals of inspiring everyone to contribute to the future success of Linux.
