Making Government Data Readable and Searchable with Pandas, Eland, and Elasticsearch
This talk explores some of the common issues found in government data like short-coding and overloading csv files to make data feel obscure and very hard to understand. In my project I took the annual reporting for the Department of Education and used it to make a college-board search tool that provides more information than just the school name and tuition.
This project shows ways you can work with dictionary files and pandas and export that data into Elasticsearch with Eland. This makes discovery easier and extendable to formats that are much more approachable.
