Editing Multimedia using Open Source Tools

Audience:
Topic:

I will describe and briefly demonstrate open source programs in all the major areas of multi-media editing and producing. Many people would use open source programs to edit media; however,  they either don't understand the programs or they are afraid that they won't appropriate for their project. If these people were shown how the programs worked, and where they could go to find help, they would probably seek out open source. Many FOSS programs work just as well as or better than their closed source counterparts. The open source programs often have better communities and wikis to help the user, but finding those resources can be confusing or difficult. I will give links to the important resources, as well as search terms to help media editors find the help they need. I will also discuss and demonstrate how to extend these programs beyond their original capabilities. and where to find the extensions.
