Christopher Montgomery

Christopher Montgomery (Monty) is the Technical Director of the Xiph.Org Foundation, an organization devoted to keeping the academic spirit of cooperation alive in internet multimedia standards. Xiph is known today for the Ogg container format and the Vorbis, Flac, Theora and Speex codecs.

In addition to the Ogg project, Monty's past and current software projects include Cdparanoia, Postfish, Beaverphonic, contributions to the Audacity project, and the occasional spot of kernel driver work. In the commercial sector, he's contributed to the open fastCGI protocol and the Cinebase media management system.

Monty holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT and an M.Eng. in Computer Engineering from Tokyo Kougyo Daigaku in Tokyo, Japan.

Monty's presentation is titled: "The State of Open Source and Multimedia: Technical Asphalt, Political Potholes and Tabloid Gossip"
