Horovits lives at the intersection of technology, product and open source. With over 20 years in the tech industry as a software developer, a solutions architect and a product manager, he brings a wealth of knowledge in cloud and cloud-native architectures, big data solutions, DevOps practices and more.

Horovits is an international speaker, an Ambassador of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), OpenSearch Ambassador under The Linux Foundation, and host of the popular OpenObservability Talks podcast.

Currently working as senior developer advocate for the Open Source team at AWS, Horovits evangelizes on the OpenSearch project by the Linux Foundation and on Observability in IT systems.

OpenSearch: The Open Source Path to Search and Observability

OpenSearch has become a cornerstone of open source search and observability, empowering developers and organizations to derive meaningful insights from unstructured data at scale. With OpenSearch officially joining The Linux Foundation in 2024, backed by tech giants such as IBM, SAP, Uber and AWS, it further cemented its position in the open source ecosystem.

In this session we’ll introduce OpenSearch, from indexing and analyzing unstructured logs to full observability capabilities across tracing, monitoring and security. We’ll share latest improvements in query performance and scalability, and real-time analytics, as well as its expanding ecosystem with new plugins and SDKs in multiple programming languages, and its compatibility with cloud-native environments. You’ll even find vector search and natural language processing capabilities for your AI/ML development.

Join us to hear it right from OpenSearch Ambassador and lead of the Observability TAG (technical advisory group) and discover how OpenSearch can fit into your observability architecture.

What’s New in OpenTelemetry

OpenTelemetry is the most active CNCF project after Kubernetes and is progressing at an immense pace. The core project is expanding beyond the “three pillars” into new signals, and beyond backend into client side telemetry and real user monitoring, eBPF, and much more. It can be difficult to keep track of all these updates.

If you liked Horovits’s KubeCon talk last year on OpenTelemetry, you won’t want to miss this sequel. In this talk Horovits will go over some of the notable project updates you should keep an eye on, as well as useful guidance on how to get started in a pragmatic fashion.

Observability? It's a Data Analytics Problem, You Fool!

We all know logs, metrics and traces, the “three pillars of observability”. We’ve been told that by collecting them we’d gain observability into our systems, right? WRONG!

You can diligently collect these signals and still find yourself without the required observability to detect and root-cause during a major outage or incident. We need a paradigm shift.

This thought-provoking talk unveils the data analytics paradigm. Learn practical measures and explore new data types to truly unlock the power of your telemetry data and get the insights you need, when you need them.
