Speaking Topic: How to Monitor your Infrastructure with Open Source Software
Erik began development of the Zenoss software in 2002 to realize his vision of a better alternative for network/systems management. Erik brings 15 years of IT management experience. Zenoss is the fourth management product that Erik has led the development of in his career.
Zenoss is a completely free and open source monitoring platform released under the GPL (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zenoss) and is financially supported by Zenoss Inc. Zenoss Inc. supplies support and services around the Zenoss project.
Prior to Zenoss, Erik was a senior architect at USinternetworking, where he led strategy, development of USi's global monitoring infrastructure. Prior to USinternetworking, Erik was director of product development for Meta4, Inc. where he led the development of a next generation IT monitoring software product. Prior to Meta4, Erik managed IT operations at Cornell University Medical College.
Erik is a graduate of the College of Wooster. He has completed graduate work in computer music at Brooklyn College and mathematics at Ecole Polytechnique Federale in Lausanne, Switzerland.Systems Management is one of the most expensive and time consuming parts of an IT guy's job. Open source software is making it easier to deploy and integrate systems management as well as making it cheaper to manage your infrastructure.
