Calling All Free & Open Source Projects!

Are you involved with a free & open source software project? If so, you’re invited to showcase your project at the Southern California Linux Expo. The 6th Annual Expo will take place February 8th, 9th & 10th, 2008 in Los Angeles, California at the Westin Airport hotel.

SCALE offers the perfect venue to meet and trade ideas with developers and users. Some past exhibitors have been Flightgear, Inkscape, KDE, GNOME, NetBSD, FreeBSD, Gentoo, OpenNMS, and Debian. SCALE is becoming a premier regional Open Source software show, with seminars, BOF sessions, and a expo floor with over 75 booths. Don’t miss it!

SCALE Speaker and Exhibitor slots fill steadily.

As attendee registration opens for the Sixth Annual So Cal Linux Expo, speakers and exhibitors are signing up steadily.

A few of the speakers and their topics are:

Akkana Peck. author of “Beginning GIMP: From Novice to Professional”‘ will speak on “GIMP Demystified”.

Jason Dixon, of the OpenBSD Project, will discuss high availability and fail-over in OpenBSD.

Sven Oehme, of IBM, will speak on how to “Scale Out File Services using Samba and a Clustered Filesystem”; and

Stormy Peters of OpenLogic will discuss the motivations behind coding for Open Source Software in her talk “Would you do it again for free?”

Some of the exhibitors that have committed to attending SCALE are Novell, IBM, Plain Black,Zenoss, and Hyperic.

Some of the non-profit organizations that will be exhibiting at SCALE: Damn Small Linux; Debian; Foresight Linux; Gentoo; GNOME; KDE; Inkscape; FreeBSD/PC-BSD; OpenBSD; NetBSD; and Ubuntu.

Over the last two SCALEs, the Expo has expanded to included specialized conferences on the Friday prior to SCALE. For SCALE 6x the Women in Open Source conference will return for its second year, and the health care conference, (DOHCS) Demonstrating Open Source Health Care Systems, returns for a second time. Last year DOHCS was a single track. For SCALE 6X, DOHCS splits into two tracks, a technical track and a business track.

Newly added for SCALE 6X is a Friday conference on education: Open Source Software in Education (OSSIE), which focuses on opportunities for Open Source in the education arena.
